  57. yes, in the 2nd grade PTA art contest I won 2nd place with my watercolor pansies which lost out to first place red fire engine truck that the boy I loved to hate won. First place won a set of watercolors. 2nd place got nothing. I cried my eyes out because I wanted those watercolors so bad; the next Xmas my parents gave me the largest set of watercolors I ever saw and to this day it's still the largest set I ever saw. Colored pencils weren't widely available in those days but when I could I used them outdoors cause I didn't need to worry about where the water would come from for watercolors. Still doing both watercolors and colored pencil to this day some 50+ years later! Roseladysos@yahoo.com

It would be a great satisfaction to win a prize in an art competition, a confirmation of the qualities possessed. But I'm still studying. The road is difficult and far from simple. Who knows, maybe one day you will be attending, when I feel ready. And waiting ... drawing

  76. I was always drawing as a kid. One day, when I was about ten, I was at the mall with my mom. She noticed there were some blank forms for a "Draw your Mom" contest. I drew a portrait of her, submitted it and won! The prize was something I could give my mom for mother's day. From then on, I entered every contest I heard about. Some I won, some I didn't. But I've learned over the years one thing: If you don't enter, you can't win!

  77. Hello everyone.

colored pencils are wonder to me
I can make a bird look really or even a tree
I can color and try to my hearts content
until my pencils are all spent.

I have never won anything and I think that is just wrong
Maybe at long last this streak will come to an end
And I can say that I won something and sing a little song

It was sponsored by an outdoor advertising company and we had to recreate an ad that would be suitable for a billboard. I didn't win but everyone got an honorable mention. So my spirit was not crushed and I still love to create, especially now that I have more available time!!!

  82. The studio where I paint (oils) has a student art show every other year, which is run with the same type of rules/standards/outside judging as a "real" art show. Last fall, I was thrilled to win second place. Am I embarrassed to admit that I used some of my winnings to buy more colored pencils, rather than paint? No. Not embarrassed at all. ;)

  83. I've literally only been drawing for 8 or 9 weeks, after a lifetime of never knowing the joys of art. So no, I've never entered or won an art contest, but if I win this one, a whole new world of color and possibilities will open up to me, and who knows what the future may hold?
