  1. On metals I use a coat of Gesso to provide tooth for the pigment. I also sometimes use watercolors to make an under painting for larger drawings. I have also used colour pencils with PITT pens, when I am trying to get a more realistic drawing.

  9. I routinely highlight with a white gel pen.
    I use grey coloured pencils for my "value underpainting", but having read these responses I may try watercolour next time. Thanks for providing such great resources Colored Pencil Magazine!

    water soluble pencils
    micron pens/sharpie
    watercolor

  16. I love to use PanPastels alongside colored pencils, then a white jellyroll for the lightest of the highlights and the occasional whiskers :) Otherwise, I'm all about the pencils!

  17. I am relatively new to colored pencil work so am trying out many techniques. So far I like adding watercolor pencils or pastel pencils for added detail and texture.

  19. After my painting is done with Colored Pencils, I like to use Acrylics, Gelly Roll Metallic Inks, Glitter, and Pastels for details. Love to paint on Black Artagain Paper.

  44. Am still experimenting, have used gelly roll pen and/or eraser for highlights, pastel chalk in the background and sometimes a fineliner black pen to establish shadow where my pencils just are not dark enough.

  48. I like to use colored pencils to add the color to my pen and ink illustrations that I do using my Koh-I-Noor Rapidograph pens. That is how I did the cover for my book. I also use this technique for personalized cards that I make for friends. They make a gift that is always well received.

    - Sometimes a color wash to create my own mi-teint paper color
    - Blenders either in pencil, marker or liquid formats

  87. I use color pencils with watercolors and technical pen and ink and also sometimes use color pencils for sketching. Color pencils also work well on pastel pencils and sketch pens and are great for making corrections, especially in watercolor paintings.

  90. I outline my initial pencil sketch with a black ZIG Millennium ink pen. Then, happy as a five-year old with a new coloring book, I fill in all the spaces with pure colored pencil. : )
