ADVANCED WINNER - Carolyn Chua

WHY IT WON: You took an admittedly boring photo and  –  kaboom is right! The graphic takes you back in time and gives you that feeling of summer, but the rendering of the popsicles is what really makes this image pop. What a difficult task to render ice but you can see subtle frost forming and it even looks a little wet and I love the wood grain. I’m still not sure how you managed to reflect all those colors and make it come to life in the way you did but this is one impressive submission and so fun to look at!

BEGINNER WINNER - Kathy Messina

WHY IT WON: Nice deep colors for this entry makes it stand out and proves that you don’t have to get too fancy to pull off a winning piece. We were especially impressed with the ice on the red popsicle and contrast shading. Nice work, Kathy!

WHY IT WON: How impressive this is for the Junior category, you placed all the elements in a nice composition, the shading is very good but the ice is fantastic! You can tell it’s cold and I like the reflective colors  you added, you should be proud!
